Trauma and PTSD

disaster-relief~~element40Acupuncture is one of the fastest growing modalities for treating acute- and post-trauma for veterans and disaster survivors world-wide. Utilizing the highly effective, well-researched ear NADA protocol, 5 ultra-fine needles are placed on the ear. Participants sit quietly for about 30 minutes while the treatment takes effect. The results from just a single treatment can be profound for those traumatized, allowing the nervous system to begin to realize they are safe.

Ear acupuncture offers a healthy, non-addictive, long-term relief option for those suffering from trauma, PTSD, and post-combat stress. The underlying imbalance is addressed to promote true healing and wellness. Some of the most common symptoms treated are insomnia, anxiety, pain, depression, and fear.

How does it work? Ear Acupuncture can help:

•    Calm the sympathetic nervous system, ie. the fight, flight, or freeze response
•    Work on the endocrine system to regulate hormonal response to stress
•    Quiet racing thoughts and induces deep relaxation
•    Work on the nervous system to reduce pain and on areas of the brain that process pain response
•    Give survivors and responders a chance to sit still and ground back into their bodies
•    Allow people to realize they are not alone in their trauma

Effects of Ear Acupuncture Treatment include:
•    Stress, anxiety, and fear reduction
•    Restore deep full breathing
•    Restore full vision and more normal functioning
•    Mental clarity and ability to concentrate
•    Increase sense of purpose, wellbeing, and safety
•    Increase sense of connection to others
•    Deeper sleep and ability to relax
•    Reduction in pain
•    Begin the process of healing by allowing the trauma to release

Renée K Barsa, L.Ac. of WellPath Acupuncture & Healing Arts devotes many volunteer hours every year to treating those suffering from trauma and PTSD, as well as training other acupuncturists nationwide how to integrate into existing disaster healthcare networks to better serve their communities.
